Overview

Originally left unfinished for nearly five years, this project involved completing the main home while redesigning the oversized shop apartment and restoring functionality throughout the property.

Challenges

  • Long-term exposure left portions of the home weathered and incomplete
  • Electrical and plumbing systems were never fully connected
  • Log construction limited the ability to modify wall systems
  • Oversized shop apartment reduced usable shop space

Key Decisions

  • Reduced the apartment footprint in the shop by nearly 1,000 square feet to create a more functional shop layout
  • Preserved the cabin’s rustic character while modernizing key systems and finishes
  • Reworked damaged doors and weathered openings throughout the home
  • Addressed hidden crawlspace moisture and insulation issues discovered during construction

Result

The renovation transformed the property into a functional rural retreat that balances modern comfort with rustic character, creating flexible living spaces, a practical shop area, and lasting functionality
